Rabi Sowing in Rajasthan 2026: A Planning Guide for Farmers
By ATTPL Agritech Editorial Team · · 2 min read
Plan rabi 2026 sowing in Rajasthan: crop choice, sowing windows for wheat, mustard, gram and barley, soil testing, seed treatment and irrigation planning.

Start with water and soil
Rabi crops in Rajasthan depend on stored soil moisture, canal water or groundwater. Before choosing crops, estimate how many irrigations you can give. Mustard, gram and barley need less water than wheat, which makes them good choices where water is limited.
Get a soil test done — the Soil Health Card shows nutrient levels so you apply only the fertiliser your field needs.
Typical sowing windows
- Mustard: from early to mid-October in most districts, as soil temperature allows
- Gram (chana): mid-October to early November
- Wheat: timely sowing in November; late sowing reduces yield
- Barley: late October to mid-November
- Cumin and coriander: November, depending on the district
Exact dates vary by district and weather. Follow the advisories of your local Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) and the state agriculture department.

Seed and seed treatment
Use certified seed of varieties recommended for your zone. Treat seed with fungicide and, for pulses like gram, with Rhizobium culture before sowing. This protects against seed-borne diseases and improves germination.
Irrigation planning
For wheat, the crown root initiation stage — about three weeks after sowing — is the most critical irrigation. For mustard and gram, light irrigation at flowering and pod formation gives the best response. Drip and sprinkler systems save water and can be used with solar pumps.
