PMFBY Rabi Crop Insurance: A Guide for Rajasthan Farmers

What PMFBY covers

Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana protects farmers against crop loss from natural calamities, pests and diseases — from prevented sowing to post-harvest losses in specified cases. Rabi crops such as wheat, mustard, gram and barley are covered where notified by the state.

Premium for farmers

For rabi food grain and oilseed crops, the farmer's share of premium is 1.5% of the sum insured. For annual commercial and horticultural crops it is 5%. The rest of the premium is paid by the central and state governments.

How to enrol

  • Through your bank, if you have a crop loan (enrolment is voluntary; you can opt out by informing the bank)
  • Through a Common Service Centre (CSC)
  • Directly on the PMFBY portal or the Crop Insurance app

The state notifies the crops, areas and the cut-off date for rabi enrolment — usually towards the end of December. Enrol well before the deadline.

Documents needed

  • Aadhaar card
  • Bank passbook
  • Land records (jamabandi) or tenancy/sharecropping document
  • Sowing declaration

Reporting crop loss

For localised calamities such as hailstorm or inundation, and for post-harvest losses, inform the insurance company, the bank or the agriculture department within 72 hours — through the Crop Insurance app, the toll-free number of the insurer or the local office.
